Short Communication Recurrent Cavernous Sinus Syndrome Complicating Supratentorial Arteriovenous Malformation: Report of a Case
نویسنده
چکیده
A S-year-old girl with history of unexplained cerebral palsy and cranial asymmetry presented with an acute encephalopathy and a cavernous sinus syndrome. Radiologic studies disclosed an arteriovenous malformation draining into a dilated vein of Galen, arterialization of flow into the cavernous sinuses from runoff of the malformation, and non-filling of the cavernous sinuses on orbital venography. Initial remission of her symptoms was followed by recurrence three months later after an episode of mild head trauma. The relationship of AVM's to cavernous sinus disease is discussed. Aim. To report a rare case of arteriovenous malformation in temporal lobe presenting as contralateral orbital symptoms mimicking carotid-cavernous fistula. Method. Interventional case report. Results. A 31-year-old Malay gentleman presented with 2-month history of painful progressive exophthalmos of his left eye associated with recurrent headache, diplopia, and reduced vision. Ocular examinatio...
متن کاملIntraosseous Arteriovenous Malformation of the Sphenoid Bone Presenting with Orbital Symptoms Mimicking Cavernous Sinus Dural Arteriovenous Fistula: A Case Report
Intraosseous arteriovenous malformation (AVM) in the craniofacial region is rare. When it occurs, it is predominantly located in the mandible and maxilla. We encountered a 43-year-old woman with Klippel-Trenaunay syndrome affecting the right lower extremity who presented with a left orbital chemosis and proptosis mimicking the cavernous sinus dural arteriovenous fistula. Computed tomography ang...
متن کاملDural arterio-venous malformations involving the cavernous sinus: a case report.
A case of dural arteriovenous malformation involving the cavernous sinus is reported. The patient was successfully treated with selective embolisation of the fistula. These patients constitute a distinct neuro-ophthalmological syndrome which may be very difficult to diagnose clinically because of the subtle signs and symptoms they present with. Angiography is necessary to make diagnosis and to ...
متن کاملAn in vivo arteriovenous malformation model in swine: preliminary feasibility and natural history study.
PURPOSE To assess the feasibility, natural history, and preliminary physiologic validation of creating an in vivo arteriovenous malformation model in swine. METHODS A transorbital puncture technique into the cavernous sinus was used to create an arteriovenous communication between the rostral rete and the cavernous sinus in eight swine. Short-term patency and hemodynamic behavior were assesse...
متن کاملEmbolization of branches arising from the cavernous portion of the internal carotid artery.
Seven patients with vascular disease (four with cavernous and two with transverse sinus dural fistulas and one with a facial arteriovenous malformation, all supplied primarily from cavernous branches of the internal carotid artery) underwent subselective catheterization and embolization. Ten branches were catheterized (seven meningohypophyseal trunks and three inferolateral trunks) and eight br...
